Why are Political Campaigns so Nasty?

I’m glad Georgia isn’t a “swing” state.  We’ll escape the bulk of political ads Florida and Ohio will endure, but there are enough ads even here to know how they all go.  Something like this:

Dems:  Romney is going to take your money and give it to the rich.

RepsObama is going to take all your money, period.

Dems:  Romney hates everyone who’s not white.

Reps:  Obama hates Christians and Jews.

Dems:  Romney will send women back to the 19th century.

Reps:  Obama is an illegal alien.

I’m exaggerating, but not by much.  Why can’t they just say what they’ll do, and let us, the citizens, decide?  We know why.  No one can get elected now without demonizing the other side.  We allow this by falling for slogans without thoughtfully and prayerfully considering the choices.

This isn’t anything new.  Political campaigns have always been nasty.  They just have so many more ways (and more money) to be nasty today.

If you’ve already decided, as I have, pray for those who haven’t, that they not be duped.  Jesus warned us over and over again not to be deceived.  Never have we needed to heed His words more than today.

I'm a retired Air Force (civilian) accountant living with my husband, Robert, and bichon-poodle mix, Buffy, in Warner Robins, Georgia. My interests are varied. I enjoy reading and writing Christian historical romances and inspirational commentary, golf, sewing, crocheting, knitting, politics, history, science and mathematics. I attend church regularly, and God is the center of my life. I'm proud of the good job my daughter is doing rearing my three wonderful grandchildren. God and my family make up the inner circle of my life, but I want to reach out with understanding and love to others.
